Abdali Mall
The urban heart of Amman’s new downtown
Project description
The Abdali Mall is an upscale commercial hub located in the city’s new downtown. The development was conceived as an open air mall that acts as a nexus point for pedestrians flowing across the downtown. With its unique technological and sustainability features, Abdali Mall evolved into one of Amman’s top shopping destinations.
The brief
Abdali Mall Company aimed to achieve three objectives:
- Designing a unique commercial destination in Amman
- Integrating sustainability features that benefit from local climate conditions
- Differentiating from the nearby Boulevard and avoiding market cannibalization
Our response
Laceco responded to the above objectives by:
- Designing a mall that complies with rigid zoning regulations while simultaneously creating architectural fluidity that is attractive to shoppers
- Developing a programmatic strategy aligned with the client’s leasing strategy and ensuring that shoppers are incentivized to visit the mall’s four floors
- Integrating sustainability features that leveraged Amman’s significant temperature fluctuation, leading to a reduction of the HVAC operating expenses
- Designing a fifth façade (the roof) of tensile structures that provides an aesthetically pleasant view from surrounding towers
