Amman New Downtown
An economic hub for Jordan
Project description
Amman’s New Downtown aims to be the hub of economic activity of the Jordanian capital. The masterplan serves a population of 45,000 and includes a pedestrian mixed-use development, an open-air shopping center (the Abdali Mall), high-rise office buildings, upscale hotels, residential quarters, and a modern convention center.
The brief
Abdali aimed to achieve three objectives:
- Executing a successful land-based PPP in Jordan
- Generating economic development opportunities in Amman
- Achieving the target rate of return for investors
Our response
- Advising the client on development strategies that would enable achieving the project objectives
- Developing a masterplan and development briefs that were used as a basis for attracting investors into the project. The masterplan introduced new typologies of residential, commercial, retail, and office spaces into Amman’s market
- Designing a project that identified a powerful center for the city and towards which neighborhoods gravitated
- Designing a project that promoted a high quality public realm, and successfully attracting residents and visitors to the area
- Developing transportation and infrastructure schemes in collaboration with Amman’s municipality, leading to a successful functional integration between project and city
