Wastewater and water supply improvement

Project description

Laceco was selected by the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) in consultation with the Batroun Water Authority for the Design and Supervision of Various Water Works (Roads, Wet utilities, MEP and structural works)in the Region of Batroun serving about 25,000 capita in 15 villages.

The brief

CDR aimed to achieve the following:

  • Rehabilitation, extension & upgrading and supervision for the following existing water supply networks: Batroun, Thoum, Bsatine Al Oussi, Assia/Zein, Kfarhilda, Dahr Abi Yagi, Kfifane & Bijdarfil.
  • Design and supervision of new water supply network for the villages of Hardine, Niha, Kfour el Arabe, Mazraat Bani Saab & Mazraat Kassab

Our response

Laceco responded to the above objectives by:

  • Survey collection of field data and topographic necessary to complete the design of water supply networks
  • Coordination with the concerned public Authority about the new water networks’ interface with existing ones (connection points/spare capacities etc…)
  • Designing and supervision around 10 km of transmission pipelines and 20 km of distribution pipelines
  • Design and supersizing the drilling and equipment of 2 boreholes, two water tanks and related pumping stations with all corresponding MEP equipment
  • Networks commissioning services

Interesting facts

  • Provide clean drinking water facilities to the people of the village despite the limited water sources
  • One of the main challenges was the steep topography and important potential head differences between the storage reservoirs and the distribution networks
  • Comprehensive database was fully integrated with special data on topography and geology in Arc View based GIS system
