For a better water harvesting and water resources management
Project description
Laceco was selected by the UNDP, under the direction of the MoWE, for the assessment and design of irrigation canals, reservoirs and irrigation ponds in up to 30 Different Site Locations in all Lebanon (North/ Bekaa/ South/ Mount Lebanon).
The brief
UNDP aimed to achieve the following:
- The assessment and the detailed design and tender documents preparation for Irrigation canals from source to farm gate that need rehabilitation and/or construction (in several locations having a total length of up to 150 km combined)
- The assessment and the detailed design and tender documents preparation for Reservoirs of up to 500m3 capacity (up to 2 reservoirs in 2 locations)
- The assessment and the detailed design and tender documents preparation for Irrigation ponds of up to 200,000m3 (up to 5 ponds in 5 locations)
Our response
Laceco responded to the above needs by:
- Undertaking site visits to the concerned village, site investigations, desktop studies in order to issue the Site Assessment report. This report evaluates the existing situation of irrigation canals and infrastructure, reviews the discussions held with the stakeholders: UNDP, Municipality members, farmers etc… and presents the corresponding recommendations and budget of works to be executed.
- Preparing and submitting the related Tender Documents, including drawings, bills of quantities and specifications, and
- Conducting Site supervision visit for the different Sites as requested by the UNDP.
Interesting facts
- These projects are manpower oriented during construction, the design shall be made in order to allow the local community to be able to perform construction works as a part of local community economic raise.
- The project is environmental friendly and sustainable allowing the harvesting of rainwater for irrigation use
