Khashm Al Aan
A city for Saudi Arabia’s National Guard
Project description
The Khashm Al Aan development transformed a large empty desert plot in the suburbs of the Saudi capital Riyadh to a full-fledged city dedicated for the soldiers and officers of theSaudi Arabia National Guards. A general master plan was designed for a 26 million square meter site within which 9.4 million m2 were subject to a detailed master plan.
The brief
The Saudi National Guard aimed to achieve three objectives:
- Developing a community where the all the needs of Saudi National Guard residents are met
- Designing a masterplan that is flexible and allows for phased constructability
- Designing a project that is cost efficient and provides for economies of scale
Our response
- Developing a masterplan that is fully equipped with physical, social, cultural and religious infrastructure and can accommodate tens of thousands of residents
- Adopting a rationalized approach whereby basic urban units can be scaled up or down depending on client needs and availability of funding (spectrum of designed components went from units to neighborhoods to clusters to districts)
- Providing advisory services to the client during the masterplanning / development strategy phases
- Providing regulatory support to contractor for obtaining all necessary approvals from planning authorities
