Khashm Al Aan
Roads and Infrastructure for the Saudi Arabian National Guards in Khasm El Aan
Project description
Laceco was selected by Saudi Oger for the design of complete Master plan Services including Roads and Infrastructure utilities for 5,750 villas on a land area of 920 hectares. The new roads and infrastructure networks serve the military housing and related public/private amenities (retail, educational, health, recreational, religious)
The brief
The Saudi National Guard aimed to achieve three objectives:
- Accommodate 57,000 officers and soldiers, and provide all necessary services and utilities for their daily life.
- Preserve all the existing infrastructure networks, and ensure their optimized integration within the new services,
- A Master plan that fits the site topographic constraints, and achieves sustainable practice
- Each future public/private development in the project area, other than the residential, to be properly serviced with the needed infrastructure connections
Our response
- Proposing a 200 km roads networks that balance between capacity, accessibility and privacy, tying with the existing surrounding roads by five gates, and incorporating collector/secondary/ tertiary roads, and spine roads,
- Opting for a combined domestic and firefighting network with centralized water storage of 20,000m3, and a central automatic irrigation system fed from the treated sewage effluent,
- Designing sanitary/storm sewer collection networks including lift stations where needed,
- Designing of high/medium/low voltage distribution networks, including the related MV/LV package substations, street and landscape lighting, and telecom duct banks
- Proposing a Sewage treatment plant (20,000 m3/day-extendible to 30,000 m3/day )
- Implementing two 90,000m3 evaporation ponds to store storm water generated by the project
Interesting facts
- Integrating a heavy matrix of utilities within the roads networks, especially within tertiary roads
- Storm water management within the flat site topography and target to discharging it partially to the ponds and another portion towards Wadi Al Sulai,
- Adoption of fiber to home (FTTH) networks: triple play system ( for telephone, internet and TV)
