Saraya Aqaba
A Development on the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red sea
Project description
Laceco was appointed by Saudi Oger for the design of a luxury international standard leisure and residential development located on a site of approximately 654,000m2 in the Gulf of Aqaba, Jordan, with all related infrastructure utilities buildings comprise a mix of hotels, residential, commercial and leisure facilities, together with associated technical and ancillary buildings and off-site facilities.
The brief
- Fit a leisure and residential development in the Gulf of Aqaba, while respecting the natural environment especially at the sea shore
- Ensuring the new development is well serviced with all required utilities, and with the optimum technical options
Our response
Laceco responded to the above needs by:
- Implemented the final master plan, including an infrastructure master plan, in addition to the design of the royal road surrounding the project
- Studying the gravity networks sewage and storm options and providing detailed design drainage networks for around 15 km pipelines
- Study the 8 km domestic water and fire-fighting pipeline with storage reservoir, all corresponding appurtenances, and connection points for individual parcels and linked to the public network
- Study irrigation water requirements under the climatic conditions which led to design an irrigation water network of 5 km length, and 12 km of shallow pipelines managed and operated through an automated system
- Designing of medium/low voltage distribution networks, including the related MV/LV package substations, underground tunnel, street and landscape lighting and electrical marine works related to water taxi, ruins and lagoon.
- Designing of security/telecom/TV/BMS/fire distribution networks including inspection hand-holes and duct-banks
Interesting facts
- Introducing a relatively dense development area while trying to preserve the sensitive ecosystem
- One of the main project challenges was the artificial lagoon implementation and its interface with the storm water network. Special design considerations and storm water treatment were deemed necessary before discharging into the lagoon
- Sea submersible cables (power and telecom) implemented to feed the “Ruins” area inside the lagoon
