Thuwal
Roads and Infrastructure for the Saudi Arabian National Guards housing compound at Thuwal
Project description
Laceco was selected by Saudi Aramco for the design of complete Master plan Services including Roads and Infrastructure utilities for 500 villas on a land area of 75 hectares. The new roads and infrastructure networks serve the military housing and related public and private amenities (retail, educational, health, recreational and religious)
The brief
Saudi Aramco aimed to achieve two objectives:
- Accommodate 5,000 officers and soldiers, and provide all necessary services and utilities for their daily life.
- Roads, residential and public/private support buildings in the project area to be properly serviced with the needed infrastructure connections
Our response
Laceco responded to the above needs by:
- Proposing 20 km roads networks that balance between capacity, accessibility and privacy, tying with the existing surrounding roads by five gates, and incorporating collector/secondary/ tertiary roads, and spine roads.
- Designing 18 km of storm and sewer networks including evaporation, detention ponds and lift stations.
- Design of water supply networks including irrigation and combined domestic and fire-fighting system networks including a 5000 m3 central reservoir and related pumping station
- Designing of high/medium/low voltage distribution networks, including the related MV/LV package substations
- Design a LED street, external and landscape lighting network
- Designing of security/telecom/fire distribution networks including inspection hand-holes and duct-banks
- Designing a 5,000m³/day STP including the design of all support buildings, labs and admin buildings (process design has been subcontracted to a specialist).
Interesting facts
- Integrating a heavy matrix of utilities within the roads networks, especially within tertiary roads
- The compound has its independent Fire Station
