Beirut Bus Terminal
Vision for a national transportation network

Project description

The Beirut Bus Terminal and Railway Station was also part of the national effort aimed at rehabilitating public transport infrastructure and services throughout Lebanon. Suggested on a land parcel owned by the Office of Railways in the eastern sector of the capital (commonly known as Sahat al Abed), the Beirut Station would have served as an arrival point for travelers coming from the northern part of the country. Located in an area near the Beirut River, the longitudinal shape of the station site lends itself well to the suggested functions and facilities, which include:

  • A central railways terminal
  • Arrival and departure points for inter-city buses
  • A bus depot and a service station for up to 200 buses
  • A 2,000 m² terminal facility for private buses
  • A state-of-the-art offices building
  • A central taxi terminal
  • A large multi-floor commercial center
  • A technical training school specialized in the formation of railways and public transport staff
